Monte Moore - Covers & Logo
I wish I could say something bad about Monte. He is the consummate professional, despite the fact his office in a scary part of town.
I met Monte in December of 1997 at one of the comic conventions held in Denver. These things are usually pretty lame, except for the fact that I picked up a bunch of Witchblade #1's for about two bucks one year. Well this year I hit the jackpot! I'm sure he thought this was another guy blowing smoke up his butt, but I new when I saw his Boba Fett sample that this guy was the $#!+ (inside joke). There was so much attention to detail. Little did I know, he knew all the tricks of the trade when it came to making things look cool. He gave me his card and I said I'd call so we could meet and discuss the project.
Sure enough, I called. He was very surprised, and we met that week at Red Robin for lunch. We talked for two hours (good thing you get unlimited fries) and he was ready to hop on board the project. He wouldn't have signed on to the project, but he loved the artwork he would be coloring and thought the main character had infinite possibilities. He felt that he was a little over his head when it came to the computer coloring, although from the looks of his sample I'm not sure what he was talking about. He stressed that there's much to be done in choosing the right palette so images on the screen are printed correctly. I thought there was software that did that (at least I knew people who did that back when I worked at Intergraph, Corp.).
After some disappointment I was just happy he was doing the covers. He has been very patient with the project and is only now (2/2/99) doing sketches for the cover of issue #1. He's also helped with the CiCi logo design and drafted the final color image below.
