Retailer Follow-Up

Hey Lyn (Moulton’s Comics),

Thank you very much for responding to my initial e-mail.  Please skip to the “Catching Up” section if you were expecting this follow up.  If you believe you have received this e-mail in error then please let me know and I can take you off my list.  You may have also received this e-mail in error, because I already had you in my Outlook contacts as part of the Spilled Milk Mailing List (or some other reason) and I had marked you with the “Retailer” category.

I sure hope you didn’t receive thousands of these, because this is the first time I’m using the MS Word mail merge with more than 10 people.  I hope this worked.  I don’t trust Microsoft.

Catching Up

I built the website in late 1998 so I hope that you’ve got Internet access.  That’s the best way to read all the information you care to absorb about the goings on at Spilled Milk.  If you don’t have Internet access then please let me know and I can send you select images via e-mail.

Almost all of the current work in progress is out in their respective ‘images’ section.  There are full color images for issue #1 complete with text (which is intentionally blurred).  Don’t worry, you will be getting text soon enough.  Most of the inks for issue #2 are out there too.   For issues #3 and #4 there are some pencils.

I invite you to check out the entire site (a daunting task and surely not done in one sitting).  I know I don’t spend my time surfing the web unless something really interests me.  I hope you will stick it out and check out the progress of the series.

My biggest issue now is trying to get Jason (the penciller) to hand in his stuff so I can ship it off to the inker.  I’m hoping to have the first issue published in August and I AM in contact with Diamond Previews.  They require the first three issues inked and lettered.

I’m definitely in this for the long haul and would like to produce an ongoing series.  I don’t have any plans of doing any other titles, because I feel that will degrade the flagship title.  I do have a script for an Elseworlds Batman that is based on the Big Island of Hawaii all ready to go.  But this will only be submitted if CiCi gets a pretty good following.

What’s it all about?

Unfortunately I’ve been pretty tight lipped about the project, but what I can say is that it’s definitely science fiction.  Since I’m a programmer by trade and have read a few books on genetics (many by Richard Dawkins) and on nano-technology (K. Eric Drexler).  Many comics that involve nano-tech. don’t really talk about the technology, they just say the word and then move on.  I hope to expand on the possibilities of this technology and how affects the characters.  I got tired of reading fantasy books because nothing is really explained.  Well it is explained, but it’s explained with more Fantasy jargon.  I tried to integrate my extensive programming background and tried to incorporate this knowledge into the story.  My goal is to tell a good story, but also to teach and I hope to make people think.

Promotional Items

All I’ve got right now is the promotional card that I made for San Diego 1999.  You can take a look at it at the following link: : http://www.SpilledMilk.com/cover01.htm .  I’ve only got a few thousand of these left, but I’d love to send you a few so you could stick them in your hold slots.  I’d like to get the word of mouth going pretty quickly and hope that the comic buyers will be interested enough to sign up for the mailing list.

I will be producing an ashcan of the first couple of pages really soon.  It will be gray tones on the inside and MIGHT (that’s a big might) have a color cover.  I will definitely have an ashcan of the entire first issue for retailers only as soon as it goes to Previews and possibly sooner if I get enough feedback.

The Mailing List

This is the best way to find out what’s going on at Spilled Milk.  I’m always looking for feedback and the fans right now are a pretty good resource, but I know that retailers really know their stuff.  By responding to my previous e-mail I’ve already added you to this list.  If you don’t want to receive this update then just let me know and I’ll remove you.  It’s just that easy.  I will, however, notify you when I’m going to be in Diamond Previews (it’s the least I could do, and should do).

If you’re still starving for more information you can check out the archived Spilled Milk updates at the following link: http://www.SpilledMilk.com/updates.htm  If you’ve already checked these out you can see there are many obstacles to overcome when publishing a comic.  I’m sure I’ve addressed many questions in my updates, but if you don’t have the time to pour through them then feel free to ask.

Administrative

I like to keep up my records, so if you haven’t done so I’d like to get your address and other pertinent information that will help me identify you.  You have sent me the following information:

First Name:            Lyn
Last Name:            Moulton
Company:            Moulton’s Comics
Phone:
FAX:
Email:               littleton@milehighcomics.com

Well if you like this kind of information (well not the information directly above, that’s stuff is pretty boring) or you have any questions, then please stick around.

I hope this project is a success and I hope I can count on you and all the other retailers out there for some support.  Moral support is good too.

Thanks,
Parker
